Cool grays are like a breath of fresh air. Modern and sophisticated, they evoke the feeling of serenity and create the illusion of a more expansive space. The March Color of the Month Clark+Kensington Subtle Gray 38A-1 was selected by Bella Andujo, a high school student and aspiring artist and photographer from California. Using Clark+Kensington paint and a technique she calls “fluid painting,” Bella created various works of art on canvas and vinyl (yes, vinyl records!). The result was colorful, inspirational and simply stunning.
Here’s why Bella selected Subtle Gray:
Q: What do you like about the color Subtle Gray?
A: I like that it’s a complex gray with a slight hint of blue. It reminds me of the calming
effect of flowing water in oceans and lakes.
Q: How would you use this color in your room?
A: I selected Subtle Gray as the main wall color in my room because it’s serene and neutral.
It’s the perfect backdrop for the multi-colored artwork on my walls.
Q: What colors would you combine with it?
A: I like the suggested pairings on the back of the Clark+Kensington color chip. Hidden River 34B-7 brings out the blue tones in Subtle Gray and Autumn Haze 13C-7 adds a fun contrast.
Q: What is the source of inspiration for your artwork?
A: The movement of water inspires my fluid paintings. I like seeing aerial images of bodies of
water, particularly those taken from space.
